His mind was whirling as fast as Flash could devour a gallon of Bob and Terry's. He hoped he didn't seem too excited or antsy, but he couldn't wait to see her. He needed desperately to talk to her! His power ring pulsed at the same rhythm as his heart beat. Where was she? If there was one woman he wanted to see then, she was the one!! Finally, the chimes rang.

"John? I'm sorry it took me so long...", she apologized.
"That's quite alright," he blurted barely able to contain himself.

As he opened the door, the scent of her perfume wafted into the room. Not even the most fragrant roses could match her scent. She smiled. Her teeth sparkled like the stars in the sky and her eyes twinkled in the same fashion. There was no doubt that this was a lovely woman.

"Please sit down. Would you like a drink?," he said, finally able to slow his heart beat.
"That would be nice," was the response. Her voice matched the finest singers of the world.
"I'm so glad you came. I needed to see you in the worst way," he breathed.
"What's wrong, John?"

She touched his hand and felt it tremble. She had never seen the Green Lantern like this. He was always so confident and strong. Even in the worst battles, John Stewart maintained his composure. Now he was as nervous as a street punk being interrogated by Batman. He gripped her hand.

"Diana, we need to talk," he said in his best baritone voice.

He didn't' know how she would accept his proposal. It was abrupt and didn't give her much room time to consider.

“I know this is rather sudden,” he explained, “but I can't think of anyone else I'd rather have at my side.”

Diana's eyes widened. She could scarcely believe her ears. This was the same John Stewart that had teased her as a “rookie”. Wasn't he the one that had referred to her as “Your Highness” with a smugness that would due Hades proud.

“I know I've not been the easiest of people to get along with,” he continued.
“You can say that again,” Diana smirked.
“But I've watched you. You have the qualities and intangibles that very few can match. That's why I need you.”

As they whisked through the majesty intergalactic space, Diana still had trouble believing that she agreed to go with him.

“Diana, I know I've called you a “rookie” and “Your Highness,” he said, “but I truly respect you for not only your strength and fighting skills, but also for your loyalty and courage.”

Diana almost fainted in shock. A compliment from the drill sergeant. A real honest to goodness nice remark from the man who seemed to be suffering from constant constipation.

“Diana,” he broke her musings. “Get ready because we almost there.”
