Doublespeak
Back in her dimension, Shayera had been denied the chance to have any children with her husband. So these words about a future son with this world’s John Stewart seemed too good to be true.

“I won’t be destiny’s puppet. Whatever the future holds, we’ll make those choices ourselves.”

Shayera’s heart began to pound as her hopes of ever having a child came crashing down.

“Don’t say you don’t love me.”

“I’ll never say that.”

It didn’t matter that he was planning on staying with Mari. He’d come around eventually. Perhaps there was hope for her in this world after all.

All That Glitters
In her mind, this date with Carter Hall would be a stepping stone back into the arms of her husband’s double. She’d played this part so well that she could fool anyone by now. But slipping into a slinky dress earlier made her sad, as she was reminded of dressing up for her John.

Now all she needed was to get into the same elevator as this John, and this part of her plan would be complete. Everything seemed to be falling into place.

The elevator doors swished open.

“Judas Priest!”

It was almost like having her husband back.

Loss
It was strange to be around these heroes, as most of them were dead or residents of Arkham where she came from. Mostly, having the Flash near her everyday made her heart ache after not seeing his counterpart for so long. She never realized how much she missed him until he was gone.

His light-hearted jokes were cheesy, but sometimes she laughed until she cried. There wasn’t anything funny about the Justice Lords. This Flash made her happier than she had been in years.

As such, there was no way he was going to disappear into a speed forest forever.
